INRAEE, member of the Transition consortium, organised a field demonstration day on mixed farming systems at the level of the Sersour Salah pilot farm, located in the southern region of Sétif, an area known as the most exposed to climate change (drought, increase in temperature) in recent years.

The farm has a mixed farming system (sheep, poultry, cereals and fruit trees). But the dominant rotation system is cereal-fallow system (monoculture), for this reason we have planted our trails in this farm (legume fodder: field pea) as a replacement of fallow, using the no-tillage system (better management of water and soil). And these crops contribute to improving the fertility of the soil (N fixation) and provide fodder for livestock, helping the farm to cope with periods of fodder scarcity. It can also be used as a cover crop.

The aim of this demonstration day was to show farmers the advantages of this system, especially with the climatic and socio-economic changes that the country is experiencing.

The participants of this demonstration day are 16 farmers, 2 engineers and the mayor of Bir Haddada municipality (town) where the farm is located.
